Lance and I ended the holiday weekend watching a John Wayne movie, The Shootist. Seems appropriate enough with the 4th of July being such a great red, white and blue celebration. Lauren Bacall is also amazing in this film, proving once again that the film industry used to be much classier! Seems movie stars of today are famous just for being famous. Wouldn’t it be great if success were measured by the number of lives you touched instead of Forbes list?
One of the producers of the The Shootist was asked his thoughts on working with John Wayne and he said
he is a man who lives by a code which he believes in, and which he applies to others: `I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.’ Impressive.
And one final thought on Mr. Wayne, everyone in Hollywood thought his nickname (The Duke) came from royalty status, quite the contrary, he was nicknamed that at a young age because of his love for a dog by the same name. Now that is classy!
