It’s time to get back and start sharing again. I came across a journal that belonged to my Great Aunt Margie that lived on a farm and worked very hard all of her life. My aunt and uncle never had any children of their own, however, every summer they enjoyed many neices and nephews spending time with them and helping out. My siblings and myself happen to be some of the lucky ones. We learned many farming tasks, simple pleasures and made life long friends in the neighborhood. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did finding it. This brought back many memories including her sense of humor……….
I would like to cook with a new electric range because:
Spring is almost here and am I ever glad! Totin’ wood and water has driven me most mad. In and out the kitchen door, I’m always making dashes, a cartin’ in the wood and totin’ out the ashes. The oven of my old wood stove is never hot enough to bake a care or pie, or any other stuff. But of my poor old kitchen, I cannot say the same. It’s always hot enough to make me complain.
I milk the cows, I have some chicks and help pitch lots of hay. In fact, in summer time I’m outdoors most all the day. This in itself is quite a deal, but when we come in, starved enough to make us reel, and have to wait for the old wood stove before we get a meal, makes us feel that we should be made of steel. Now sister has new range, and although it cost some money, it’s really quite a change and is it a honey’. she turns a knob and a thing-a-mabob and right away there’s heat, while I’m still whittling shavings and stamping both my feet. And as I say, I plowed the corn, and pitched the hay for ages. Now this year is to be different, I’m going to collect some wages. To you and to some others, this may sound sorta strange, but I’m going to blow the whole darned works on a new electric range. There can be a knob or a thing-a-mabob just so there is heat right where I want it, and one hot day, I’m going to play, while it cooks the meat for supper!
The next time you complain…..think about cooking with a wood stove!
Alleluia! I love my electric range, and the fridge, the vacuum cleaner, oh yeah, and the washer and dryer, (my mom had a wringer washer and a clothes line when I was young) This computer is pretty cool as well. If I had to choose just one appliance, I would be very hard pressed to make a choice. DId I mention my sewing machine?
I would have loved to have met your aunt!
What convenience item do you appreciate the most?
